Salient Features
of Fire Protection in Spencer Plaza
As Spencer Plaza is high-rise building,
wet riser system is installed in this project.
We have an underground sump, which has the
storage capacity of one-lakh litres of water.
We are extending the present sump to increase
the capacity of water storage. From the
pump room there is a ring main surrounding
the building and there are 5 wet risers
running from basement to the second floor.
And there are 3 wet risers running from
fourth floor to seventh floor. These risers
are located at strategic points in each
floor. We have provided the hydrant with
necessary canvases & PVC hoses with
nozzles. The glass enclosures are painted
with red paint, affixed with "FIRE"
stickers on it. The pipelines will be always
pressurized with water and in case of eventualities
the pressure in the pipeline will come down
and automatically the water pump will come
to operation. In the pump room there are
three pumps, one jockey pump, one main pump
with electrical driven motor and one main
pump connected with diesel engine.
In addition to wet riser system, electronic
fire alarm system is also installed. The
installation of fire alarm system is intended
to detect fire at a sufficiently early stage
in order to reduce the property loss. The
fire detection system comprises of smote
detectors and manual call points located
in various points in common areas in all
floors, sub-stations, electrical rooms,
A/C plant etc. Which are connected to a
centralized computer, which is located at
Chief Security Officer enclosures.
There are also many portable fire extinguishers
to fight different types of fires, installed
at each floor in different strategic locations.
The fire escape stairs is constructed at
the rear periphery of the building. The
fire escape routes are also displayed with
illuminated signboards at various points
of the building. The car ramps also can
be used as fire escape routes, as it is
provided with sufficient ventilation and
broad enough to take more number of persons.
There are two entrances for fire engines
to come. One from Binny Road and another
from Mount Road entrance.
All our staff and securities are well trained
to operate the equipment's facilities. We
have employed one trained and experienced
fire supervisor exclusively for maintaining
and testing the equipment at frequent intervals.
We are also taking mock fire drill once
in two months to educate the occupants in
the plaza about the use of fire fighting
system.
